Most people neglect their body language, which gives you an edge. Today, I’ll share a few tips to help you stand out and exude higher status effortlessly.

Here are five body language tips to boost your confidence:

1. Eye Contact

Avoiding eye contact makes you seem timid, shady, and uncomfortable. Don’t stare people down, but feel at ease holding eye contact during conversations.

  • The triangle technique: Finding balance in connection instead of locking eyes directly, ease into eye contact by focusing on the triangle formed by the other person's eyes and the bridge of their nose.

  • The 50/70 rule. Balancing presence and engagement navigate the dynamics of eye contact with 50/70 rule, aim to make eye contact for approximately 50% of the time while speaking and 70% while listening. This approach demonstrates active participation in the conversation.

  • The Nod-and-Gaze: Demonstrating active listening. Combine eye contact with nodding to signal active listening and understanding.Whether in meeting or casual conversation, nodding in agreement while maintaining eye contact affirms your engagement and support.

  • The pause-and-peer: Cultivating genuine interest. Demonstrate respect and consideration by pausing briefly before responding to someone and peering into the eyes attentively. This allows you to absorb their words fully and respond thoughtfully.

2. Stop Fidgeting

Fidgeting is a subconscious way to comfort yourself in uncomfortable situations. Biting nails, jittering legs, and twiddling thumbs all signal anxiety. When you catch yourself doing this, take a breath, relax, and stop.

3. Smile

Humans are naturally inclined to return smiles. Don’t smile in a creepy way, but enter a room with a happy and relaxed demeanor. This will put others at ease and make you more likable. Never force a smile; let people earn it, and when you do smile, make it genuine and radiant.

4. Stand Up Straight

Many men have underdeveloped rear shoulders, leading to slouching, which conveys low-value body language. Make it a habit to roll your shoulders back.

5. Improve Your Voice

How you say something matters more than what you say. When speaking:

  • Don’t mumble

  • Don’t speak too fast

  • Don’t be afraid to pause

  • Don’t talk through your nose

  • Avoid overusing words like “like” or “um” (I’m guilty of this)

By refining these habits, you’ll sound and feel much more confident.
